Enable vi syntax highlighting

It’s very easy to enable the syntax highlighting in vi (improved, vim) in a debian/ubuntu environment.

First of all install it (or check you have already installed

$ sudo apt-get install vim

Then edit the properties file

$ sudo vi /etc/vim/vimrc

and remove the comment from the beginning¬† in the line that states “syntax on”

Save and close and now you have the syntax highlighting enabled in vi.
